GUARDIAN AD LITEM BOOK CLUB

Our first Book Club gathering was a huge success! Kathy Muir led the discussion
of The Glass Castle with 25 participants.

The discussion was lively and thought provoking. Kathryn Kraus was our gracious and generous hostess
at the Fort Lauderdale Yacht Club. Thank you Kathryn!

We will be having our 2nd Book Club gathering on April 30, 2008. It will be held at the Fort Lauderdale Yacht Club in the Gold Room from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The address is 1725 SE 12th Street, Fort Lauderdale.
The name of the book is Come Back by Claire and Mia Fontaine.

Our hostess, Kathryn Krause, has once again offered us this beautiful facility and light refreshments will be served (a thousands thanks to Kathryn). Seating is limited to 25 people. Please sign up quickly as it will be first come, first served. Reservations will be taken until April 25th and if the response is overwhelming,
we will add an additional night at the office.

OUR SPOTLIGHT IS ON………

Ellen Williams, who was acknowledged by Magistrate Miranda as having written and submitted the “best report she had ever read!”

Susan Tommers, who navigated the difficult and frustrating ICPC (Interstate Compact for the Placement of Children) process to make sure that two of her Guardian children were reunited in Georgia with their mother and siblings in time for Christmas!

Pam Tindall, was able to secure braces “at no cost” for one of our foster care teens! Insurance considered them cosmetic!

Angie Stevens, has agreed to represent our Program on the Statewide Volunteer Liaison Committee. Thank you!

Valerie Pressley, has been serving as our representation on the African-American Diversity Committee.

Just recently, Miguel Orta, has agreed to serve as our representative on the State Hispanic Diversity Committee.

Herb Erlich, who recently returned to active status from medical leave. You were missed!

Also, welcome back to Irwin and Arlene Isaacs.

On March 31, 2008, our long time Administrative Assistant, Joan Moulton, is retiring! She has served our Program with incredible dedication and devotion for 23 Years! It is hard to believe that it is time to say good-bye and wish her well as she begins her well deserved retirement.

Joan began with the Program on March 1, 1985. There were 3.5 staff members and approximately 100 volunteers. Needless to say, Joan has seen and experienced numerous changes as our Program has grown to a staff of 50 and almost 400 volunteers. Through it all, Joan has remained steadfast and flexible! She has worked in five different office with six different directors.

Joan has been our Program historian and the ultimate trainer for all the staff members who have come and gone. She has always been one of the first to jump in to help whenever one of us is in need and she can never say “no” to providing a home or finding a home for a kitten!

I hope I will be able to find the right words to say good-bye to Joan, until then I hope all of you will join me in saying “thank you and well done!” We will miss you.
