Biography

Progressive thinking and exceptional problem-solving ability have led Dr. King to be recognized as a leader and a visionary. Her commitment to expanding the research, development and application of holistic counseling and pain management led her to form International Holistic Center and Dr. King & Associates, Inc. Both practices exemplify her ability to identify a need and develop effective solutions.
Dr. King’s quest for effective pain management developed from her personal experience with chronic pain. Utilizing an interdisciplinary holistic approach, she successfully found relief from her chronic pain and now feels compelled to share her experience and knowledge with others that seek to improve their quality of life. Dr. King has expanded her practice by recruiting the best experts in their fields and bringing them together to provide a truly modern approach to therapy. Dr. King’s goal is to revolutionize the mental health and pain management fields through research, direct practice, training and motivational speaking.

Prior to dedicating herself to a full-time private practice, Dr. King worked for Broward County Public Schools for almost 20 years. Her vast experience spanned from classroom teacher, to family counselor, to school social worker, then to program developer/administrator. She has served as a consultant to legislators and to national and state organizations in education, social work and mental health. She was also the Clinical Director of a community mental health agency and successfully ran an adolescent drug rehabilitation program. Her extensive experience and knowledge as an educator, administrator and program developer has provided her with effective tools and techniques that have shaped and enhanced her abilities as a mental health professional and entrepreneur.

Dr. King has held numerous leadership positions in local and national organizations and is a proud member of the National Association of Social Workers, American Pain Management Association, EMDR International Association (EMDRIA), South Florida Society for Trauma-Based Disorders, and Children and Adults with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (CHADD), among others.

When Dr. King is not working with her clients, she advocates on behalf of underprivileged children and families, raising awareness of education issues and health concerns. She prides herself in being a catalyst for positive change and hopes to truly make a difference.

Dr. King is also recognized as a dynamic and inspirational speaker, lecturer and author. She has written and delivered compelling presentations on many aspects of her areas of expertise. She is currently writing a book and expects to publish it in the near future.

Dr. King is a Florida Licensed Clinical Social Worker, a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist and a Certified Clinical Supervisor for Clinical Social Work, Mental Health Counselors and Marriage and Family Therapists. She earned her doctoral degree from Nova Southeastern University and her Master of Social Work from Florida International University. She has completed extensive postgraduate training in EMDR, chronic pain, ADHD, trauma, depression, substance abuse, infant mental health, and child/adolescent psychology. She is currently pursing advanced certification in hypnotic anesthesiology. She is also an adjunct professor at Nova Southeastern University.
